Just F*cking Do It: Top 10 Key Takeaways

2019 was my year of swearing at every F*cking thing. With something that started out as whining earlier in the year, as we all know practice makes perfect- by the end of the year I was swearing in almost every sentence. Meanwhile, thanks to binge-watching Suits, my swearing-vocabulary was broadened and shifted to American, for example substituting Bloody for Goddamn– almost like an unintentional preparation for my anticipated relocation to USA from the UK.

My new sassy language caught many people’s attention- I had a notable transition from someone who used to judge anyone who swears, to myself becoming the queen of swearing. Combining this with my personality of wanting to do hundred things at once, I got this amazing book, Just F*cking Do It by Norr Hibbert, as a gift from Nic for Christmas. What a beautiful gesture to end my year and leap into 2020- exactly when quit-swearing was already on the top of my New Years Resolution List (yes, I am one of those who has this list :waves:). As the book was swearing at me loudly, Just F*cking Do it, I made a mental note to blog what I learn from it, and also make an effort to stop swearing.

Here we are in the weird 2020 which is not like any other year- I have already managed to break my swear-at-everything habit. Trust me the social distancing definitely got me here quicker than I thought. There is literally no-one to swear at except my Google Home that really does not like my English Accent, which is a real test for keeping my resolution. Google keeps telling me “I am sorry you feel that way” whenever I state “F*ck you Google”, at every misunderstood conversations we have.

Quarantined at home, I found time to read the book sooner than I thought and would like to share my insights with you all. It was a fantastic read as it reminded me of some of the values I believe and try to practice. I found it a great refresher on how to face life positively and live life as you like it. The book also inspired me to restart my blogging work I have been procrastinating for a year now- which I had coincidentally already called Live As You Like It. Thanks for joining me, you are reading my first blog (:hearts: )

The Birth of Planet Hopper Girl: Cambridge, UK, April 2020, Quarantined at Home

We are all currently going through unprecedented times and observing lockdown which has disrupted our routines and day to day lives. On the upside, we have the opportunity to leverage this period to slow down from the usual busy pace of life and reflect on what matters the most to us. With less daily commutes and travelling, we have some extra time in our hands to pick up on personal activities we might have wanted to get done for ages. I hope that while you are spending more time with yourself, you might find some of the key takeaways from this book can aid you shape your thoughts, ideas and goals to develop yourself.

Just F*cking Do It takes you through a game plan for living a meaningful life through self discovery, focusing your thoughts and actions towards your definition of leading a happy life, by harnessing true power and energy from the universe. Whatever obstacles you face in life right now, this book shows you how to stop thinking small, make positive changes and live the life you deserve. Here are my top ten takeaways.

1. Connect with Yourself

41Rog68CXZL._SX384_BO1204203200_-1

Connect with yourself to write your life story as you envision it

Transforming your life starts with your mind, looking inwards to realize your potential. Where you are now does not determine what you can be in a month or a year, but the first step to make that change is to identify what makes you tick. The definition of a happy or extra-ordinary life is different among individuals, and it is important to discover what is yours. Once you have connected with yourself to figure it out, be ready to try and write your own story. The author advocates having this deceptively non-trivial conversation with yourself, derive some personal development plans and commit to them. These plans should be carefully created by you to write your own story.

Many of us tend to live in auto-pilot mode, waiting for things to come into place on their own however life could be much more fulfilling if driven by the leadership of your own soul.

2. Connect with the Universe

vibrations-1

Stay tuned to the universal intelligence

We are all part of the universe which is a constantly moving body of information and energy. Whatever thoughts or desires you are putting out into the world, you are feeding the universe with lots of positive energy. All that you need to do is to tune to the universal intelligence with the right energy to make your thoughts a reality. This is what many thought leaders mention as the Power of your Dreams. Think about how everything in the world originated as a dream or desire in someone’s mind. As the Law of Attraction says, “positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life”.

Trust the universal intelligence and converse with it by sending out your thoughts in the form of positive energy.

3. Identify meaningful personal goals

maxresdefault

Know what you want and then work on how to get it

Some times, many people have goals that are not truly theirs, this leads to a lack of direction, that ultimately ends up in a vicious cycle of anxiety and dissatisfaction. Having some meaningful personal goals are important to allow you to define the criteria of your success story. You don’t need to know the exact details of how to achieve the goal, but at-least having a target helps you in constructing your frame of happiness.

Remember that all your goals should ultimately help facilitate you to become the the best version of yourself. While planning, make sure you identify goals in all areas of your life- spiritual, physical, emotional, financial etc. If there is an imbalance in one of these aspects, it will ruin your overall quality of life.

While you are tackling these goals, open yourself to opportunities and work towards them, but detach yourself from the outcome. As previously stated, you know you are tuning into the universal intelligence that will help you reach the outcome- just trust the universe!

4. Stick to your lane and pace

Everybody is awesome in their own way

A key step while advancing your goals is to stop thinking that you are in a competition with the outside world. We all have goals that others around us have already achieved or have progressed further than us, but their journey and roads are different. The world is a freaking infinite state machine (sorry for being a little geeky) where no one traces the same path. Never be envious of anyone’s life or achievements, instead be happy for them and treat their story as a catalyst and inspiration, which affirms you can get there too.

Most often those who appear successful, might have earned it via their actions and positive energy they put out into the universe. They are talking to the same universal intelligence that you are, you just need to tune into the same energy and manifest your desires. You should be prepared to live your own journey driven by your life goals, and not to compare yourself with others. Set your own expectations, learn from others, but never live in the hangover of jealousy with others. Their space is theirs. Period.

5. Be Self Aware of your internal daemons

18yn45

Learn to call BS on your internal thoughts like you easily call BS on the external world

Many of us live in the past. Old stories of resentment, guilt, revenge etc. which always get in the way of progressing our present life which affects our future negatively. It is time that we all learn to detect those internal whispers from the past and be ready to say a big No to all that internal BS. The future is tomorrow, there is not much time.

We cannot escape the past, but when it comes to bad memories and experiences, we can try to learn to acknowledge, forgive and forget them and move on. No matter how much it may feel like someone else destroyed your happiness, you should try and achieve emotional freedom from such toxic feelings. Many of us have baggage coming straight from childhood, which we don’t even realize is affecting us subconsciously. Such internal thoughts can only be stopped by you. We cannot undo our past, but we can definitely change our future.

6. Choose Yourself

Stand By You

You are who you choose to be, so why not choose to be a combination of everything you like and admire. Most often, our self-image is created by our ideas and thoughts which reflect our internal being. You want to cultivate it with great faith in yourself, your passion, abilities and potential. You don’t need someone else to validate everything you want to do. Stop asking for opinions from others thinking you need validation. You can seek opinions to help you formulate your decisions and thoughts, but not to define the ultimate choice you make for yourself.

Nobody can love you as much as you could love yourself, seek your own love

Everyone goes through real difficult times and it is painful to recover. Any such emotional scars need to be repaired and amended with effort. If you are hurt by things not under your control, which is almost always the case, don’t let it color your days. Don’t choose the pain and let it define you, choose yourself and let it teach you.

Forgiveness and Faith are key to overcoming any grief. Learn to forgive yourself and others. Have faith in yourself to uplift your soul by controlling your thoughts and keeping them directed at your ultimate goals. If one plan fails, make another but don’t stick to anything or anybody toxic. Have that courage to let things go.

7. Be mindful of your conversations

The magic of conversations: Words are powerful

Your words can play a big role in creating your destiny. It is not just what you speak to others, but what you speak to yourself. Your conversations with yourself formulate your thinking. If your thinking is negative and you are constantly putting you down, it leads to negative talking which then leads to negative actions or behaviors. Setbacks always happen, don’t let them limit you in a way that you are constantly negative.

To overcome this, the author suggests to create a personal list of things you are not happy with in your life and come up with action items that you think would help mitigate them, rather than trash talk about your situation.

8. Choose whom you spend time with

never-underestimate-600x600 (2)

It is better to be alone than in bad company

Like the saying goes, we are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with. We cannot always choose our family and environment and this does not mean you have to carefully choose everyone you interact with. Be mindful that those whom you spend most of your time with all have an influence on your emotional, mental and spiritual state – be it good or bad. Toxic people and culture only drains you and stops you from being your true self.

Keeping good company does not just include people, but also include books, podcasts, TV-shows etc. that can keep you positive, inspired and energetic to chase your goals. Continue your journey making an effort to find positive environments and people.

9. You get what you give

download-1

Karma is your best friend

Karma is not just a bitch, but your best friend in many ways. The entire philosophy of Karma is that; if you do good you get good back and if you do bad you get bad back. Practice karma with good intentions and actions which will help you grow into the best version of yourself.

For practicing good karma, try to pay attention to how you deal with your day to day life. If you are looking for appreciation, think of how often do you give it. If you expect people to be kind, think of how often are you kind to others. If you want to be loved, give others love. You intentions, thoughts and actions determine how you speak to the universe, the source for manifesting all your desires.

10. Be Thankful

shutterstock_1207764361a.0

Acknowledge what you have before you go to sleep, instead of dwelling on what you don't have

Practicing gratitude is an easy task to pursue but most often forgotten. We always wish for many things, but we forget them as soon as we achieve them. This is a lost opportunity in acknowledging the reality that we have been hitting many milestones that we dreamt of. While I am writing this, I took a pause and looked around my desk and easily spotted more than 90% of the items around me were once my childhood dream. Taking such pauses regularly will help you enjoy the present reality, not getting caught up in chasing the future.

Learn to remind yourself to put things into perspective and always be grateful. Let me quote one of may all time favorites- “Your current life may not be your dream yet, but you are living someone else’s dream”. Even if the journey is challenging while you attempt your goals, make sure that you follow a habit of recognizing your small milestones. Celebrate your accomplishments time to time, so that you enjoy the journey and not just the destination.

Just Ducking (:No No No Swearing:) Do It

Two devils that are known to stand in the way of people achieving their personal goals are Procrastination and Waiting-for-Perfection. It is a very common trait to get into the loop of thinking everything has to be perfect. Don’t forget that, it is way better to have something imperfect done than nothing at all. We all have to start somewhere. There is nothing like a perfect time- this is the moment.

Start progressing your endeavors by acknowledging that there will always be challenges and risks associated with any decision, but they ultimately contribute to the final outcome by showing you different ways to improve. Success on any endeavor should be measured by the latest version of yourself from the experience itself, not just the outcome.

Dare to fail and embrace the fear, but keep ducking (:no swearing:) doing whatever you want to, without anybody’s permission, by tuning into the universe that can guide you forward.

And Always Remember, You Can Live As You Like It!

Note: This was a very brief summary, but for detailed stories and action items to take steps, I would recommend you all to read the book. I have covered a concise summary of the book, major takeaways I noted down that inspired me to improve myself and thought might help others too.

Thank you Matthew. We can only try, nobody is perfect and doesn’t mean we get everything right. I think it is good to be self aware of some things.
