accommodation

Accommodation Booking Style/Tips

I first start with Airbnb and analyse quality of accommodations based upon reviews. I will then compare against Hostel or Hotel options to see which type of accommodation is best in the place I am visiting. Some of the services will have strong presence in an area, and hence there is no ranking than checking all. Some destinations like Scotland has it's own chain of B&Bs not listed in any of the above sites. I shall cover such places in respective blogs. So don't forget to check my destination series for that.

Booking.com is one of the best choices for finding hotels:

Locations:

  • Europe, UK, USA, Asia

Highlights

To Note:

Airbnb is my one of most favourite options to find apartments to stay locally

Why Favorite?

Hotel stay will be almost same everywhere, Airbnb stay shows the culture of the place. If you are wandering and  like to sleep in home conditions with windows open etc, this is better.

Highlights

To Note:

HostelWorld is the place to find hostels for a cheap price. Perfect for budget travelers.

Locations:

  • Europe, UK

Backpacking in Europe is on everyone’s list. Hostels are one of the best budget options that make this possible.

To Note:

Agoda is a new site that is similar to Booking.com to find cheap accommodation including hostels and hotels.

Locations:

  • UK, Europe, Asia

flights

Flight Booking Style/Tips

All these websites are clever as ad mechanisms on internet to figure out about your travel plans from your search history and then bump prices once it records your search. I recommend to check flight prices in Incognito Mode for this. How I usually do this is check prices from different IP addresses and verify what is the original price. Comparing against all these websites is advised before your booking, as cheap deals differ depending on a particular search.

Kiwi.com is a new flight booking site that shows prices of journeys directly on a map and find cheapest way to fly to a place without a specific airport in mind.

Top Users:

  • Budget travellers not constrained by time

Highlights

Trip.com is another flight booking site to find best rate.

CheapOAir is awesome for finding the cheapest tickets when you are not sure exactly where you want to go.

Top Users:

  • Wanderlusts looking for cheap deals to go anywhere

Kiwi.com and SkyScanner now have similar search capabilities and I tend to use them more but check here too for comparing prices.

cars

Rental Car Booking Style/Tips

Same tips for flights apply for Rental Cars. I would usually go to RentalCars.com and find the cheapest deals across all services there. Depending on locations, deals differ across companies. Other options not listed here are Hertz and Sixt.

Rentalcars.com shows all the deals from most of the car rental vendors in a region.

Highlights

Alamo is one of the cheapest car rental options in USA. I have used it when I road tripped in USA and was a good experience.

Highlights

Enterprise is one of the cheapest car rental options in the UK, which I have used once and is used by most of my friends living in the UK.

TRAVEL GEAR

Google Chromecast

We use Chromecast to watch youtube or netflix on TV or see our pictures of the day on TV

Chromebook

We use chromebook as the large screen device for quick browsing, seeing pictures of the day etc. Chromebook is light weighted, require only a USB charger and also have a pen option to take quick notes. As we only use large screen device for photo viewing and watch videos, we love our chromebook. Here are my top recommendations.

HDMI Cable & Memory Card Reader

Entertainment/Leisure

  1. Movie: I use Amazon Prime for movies and TV shows that we watch during my travels especially in flights.  Checkout Best Sellers
  2. Books: I do read a book at least during my journeys, and totally use Amazon to buy books
  3. Kindle: Or you could read eBooks on a kindle. I am more of a hard copy fan
